Darja Varfolomeev does not wait long for a world final. In Frankfurt she walked into three, and won all three. On home floor, before a German crowd, the nineteen-year-old closed the championships as its defining figure.
The all-around
It began on 14 August. Varfolomeev claimed the individual all-around title with 119.500, ahead of Stiliana Nikolova of Bulgaria and Sofia Raffaeli of Italy. It was her third consecutive all-around world crown, and it punched Germany's first tickets toward the LA28 cycle. She entered as the reigning Olympic champion. She competed like one.
Ball and ribbon
The final day belonged to her apparatus work. In the ball final she defended her world title with 30.350. In the ribbon final she went higher still — 30.500, her best apparatus score of the championships, and a fitting last note. Three finals contested for gold. Three finals won.
Fourteen, and counting
Frankfurt was not a breakthrough. It was a continuation. She built her lead early, held it under home pressure, and finished on her highest mark. The apparatus titles she left on the table went to the next wave — Taisiia Onofriichuk on hoop, Nikolova on clubs — but the pieces that decide a championship stayed with her.
With these three golds, Darja Varfolomeev now holds fourteen world titles at the age of nineteen. Reigning Olympic champion. Three-time all-around world champion. For one week in Frankfurt, unmistakably the best in the world on her own floor.
