Zsófia Törőcsik of Hungary won the women’s Constant Weight No Fins world title at the 2026 AIDA Depth World Championships in Limassol, Cyprus, with a dive to 78 metres — a Hungarian national record and her second depth world title.

Clouds part for the deepest dive of the day

The competition opened on 30 September with CNF, the discipline where an athlete descends and ascends on a single breath without fins. Törőcsik had announced the deepest attempt of the day, 78 metres, and organisers placed it in the late-afternoon window when the sea is usually calmest. As that window arrived, the overcast sky cleared, the current died, and the surface turned almost completely flat.

Her training partner at the nOxygen Apnea Club, Croatia’s Sanda Delija, claimed silver with a 75-metre performance that also set a Croatian national record. Ukraine’s Nataliia Zharkova finished third at 68 metres.

A question answered under pressure

The depth itself was not the unknown. Törőcsik had already touched 80 metres in training. The real test was whether she could reproduce that form in competition, especially after a difficult final preparation block where several practice dives did not go to plan.

“I knew I was capable of this depth, since I had already dived 80 metres in training — the question was whether I could bring out what’s in me in a competition situation,” she told reporters afterwards. She described the conditions as fortune: the sun appeared precisely when the deepest dives were due, and the water gave them nothing extra to fight.

An outstanding season builds

The Limassol gold is the opening medal of the championships and the latest highlight in a season that already included a Free Immersion world record of 107 metres at Lastovo, Croatia, in August. Törőcsik, a World Games champion, had previously won the overall title at her debut Depth World Championships.

The day also showed the sport’s thin margin. Törőcsik’s next event at the championships will be the bi-fins discipline later in the week.
