Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won the team sprint gold at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. He skied it alongside his compatriot Erik Valnes. It was his second title of those Games.
A second Beijing gold, won as a pair
The race ran at the Nordic venue in Zhangjiakou, China, on 16 February 2022. Klæbo and Valnes carried Norway to the top of the men's team sprint podium. The win came just over a week into the Games.
It confirmed Norway's hold on the fastest events of the cross-country programme. Eight days earlier, Klæbo had won the men's freestyle sprint to retain his Olympic sprint title. The team sprint added a matching gold within the same week.
Two Beijing golds, built on a PyeongChang debut
The Beijing pair followed a three-gold debut at PyeongChang 2018. There, aged 21, he became the youngest male Olympic champion in cross-country skiing history. He anchored Norway's relay to seal that clean sweep.
Those early titles marked a rise that did not slow. He had claimed the youngest Tour de Ski crown, at 22, and the youngest overall World Cup title, at 21. Five more overall World Cup titles would follow.
The years after Beijing lifted him higher still. He swept all six events at the 2025 World Championships in his home town of Trondheim and reached 100 World Cup wins that December. At Milano Cortina 2026 he took a ninth Olympic gold, breaking a record shared by Bjørgen and Bjørndalen, then closed with a record six titles at one Games and 11 in all.
Seen from there, the team sprint is one thread in a long run of titles. It stands as a shared win, set between two individual ones. Together with the freestyle sprint, it made Beijing a two-gold campaign for Norway's leading skier.
