Olomouc rewarded patience, then rewarded it again. On 2 July 2026, in the opening competition block of the World Para Athletics Women's Grand Prix, Kazakhstan's Irina Tychshenko threw the discus 25.60 metres on her second attempt. It was a world record in the F45 category. Three throws later, she made the first one obsolete.
Two records, one afternoon
The correction came on her fifth attempt. Firstly she improved it to 25.60 meters in the second attempt and then moving it even further to 25.72 meters on her fifth attempt. Twelve centimetres separated the two marks. Minutes separated the two entries in the historical tables. She had beaten her own best before the competition was finished.
The setting suited her. The warm weather benefited the throwers on Thursday, and it was a day on which the world's historical tables were rewritten more than once. Tychshenko was not the only athlete to profit. In the shot put sector, the Croatian Karla Hergotic set a world record in the F62 category with a throw of 8.73 metres on her sixth attempt, surpassing the previous mark from 2001 by more than three metres. In the discus F40, Uzbekistan's Madina Mukhtorova reached 25.71 metres with her final sixth attempt, moving a two-year-old world record by more than half a metre. The afternoon belonged to those who kept throwing.
Tychshenko belonged to that group. She did not settle for the record she had. She refined it in front of the same crowd, in the same circle, within the same hour. A second-attempt world record is a result. A fifth-attempt improvement is a statement of control.
A return, not a debut
Olomouc knows her. Irina Tychshenko is doing well in Olomouc, where at last year's premiere she moved the world records in the shot put and discus throw in the F45 category. And this year she improved the discus best twice. The stadium that first watched her set the standard has now watched her raise it.
That continuity matters. The 2025 meeting gave her two world records across two disciplines. The 2026 meeting narrowed her focus to one implement and pushed it further still. The trajectory is plain. Each return to the Hana region has ended with her name higher in the tables than when she arrived. Progress here has become a habit rather than an accident.
The Grand Prix exists for exactly this. Olomouc is the World Para Athletics circuit's women-only meeting, built to widen the stage for women in the sport. Tychshenko has used that stage twice, and twice left it changed.
She came to Olomouc holding the F45 discus record. She left holding a better one.
