Casati Wins Big Air World Title in Family One-Two

Leonardo Casati is the 2026 GKA Big Air Kite World Champion. The Italian sealed the title at the season-ending stop in Mykonos, where his brother Lorenzo finished second. It was a family one-two on the world tour.

A final that doubled as the title decider

The men's final at Korfos Beach was not only a fight for the event win. Leonardo needed to place first and see rival Jamie Overbeek finish third or lower to take the crown. The maths left no room to hold back.

Lorenzo opened with a 9.4 and briefly led the heat, with his brother's title on the line. Leonardo then rode into first place, with Shahar Tsabary third and Overbeek fourth. On the final attempt, Lorenzo took no more risks and let the scores stand.

First world title at 17, kept in the family

The win made Casati a world champion at just 17. It followed a fourth place at the 2024 Worlds in Gran Canaria, where Lorenzo took second. Along the way in Mykonos, defending champion Finn Flügel fell in the quarter-finals.

The victory kept the title in the family for a second straight year. Lorenzo won the 2025 championship; Leonardo now holds the 2026 crown, both built on daily training with their father, Renato.

"World Champion at 17. It's something, like crazy," Leonardo Casati told the tour afterwards. "It's my dream since I started kiting, and a few weeks ago I finally did it thanks to all the hard work with my dad and my brother. I hope this is just the beginning."

He topped the overall season standings too, ahead of Overbeek and Lorenzo. His stated aim now is a wider trilogy of Big Air titles. For a rider of 17, the story reads as an opening chapter.
