Groningen has a new page in mountain-bike history. On July 25, 2026, Sweden's Alma Wiggberg became the first-ever women's champion of Red Bull District Ride. She topped the first women's edition of the urban slopestyle contest with a run built around a backflip barspin off the rooftops.

A backflip barspin from the rooftops seals it

In front of a packed Grote Markt, Wiggberg delivered the key moment in the Big Air District. She sent a backflip barspin off a 15.5-metre roof drop, the wheel spinning under her before she stomped the landing cleanly. The trick earned the day's top Big Air score and broke open a contest that had been tight through the Park and Dual sections.

Her scorecard told the story of a complete ride. Wiggberg posted 93.00 in Big Air, 92.00 in Park and 92.00 in Dual for a winning total of 277.00 points. Germany's Johanna Nussbaumer took second with 229.00, while Poland's Natalia Niedzwiedz took third on 211.99.

A record of firsts grows longer

The win in Groningen extends a run of firsts for the 23-year-old Swede. She is already the first woman to win Red Bull Joyride at Crankworx Whistler, the sport's most famous course. In 2024 she claimed the women's first Diamond titles in both Australia and Canada.

"It feels unreal to be the first woman to win this event," she told reporters afterwards. "Standing on that rooftop and looking down at the crowd, I just knew I had to send it."

The women's debut at District Ride showed how fast the discipline is moving since it joined the FMB World Tour. On the streets of Groningen, Wiggberg's backflip barspin from a rooftop was the clearest sign yet of where the field is headed.
