Angel Reese pulled down a record 26 rebounds in the Atlanta Dream's 78-71 win over the Los Angeles Sparks. She set a new WNBA single-game mark and passed the single-season rebounding record on the same night.

A record that stood for 23 years falls

The moment came at Crypto.com Arena on a night when her shot would not drop. She made just four of 14 attempts from the field. So she chased the glass instead, finally getting her league-leading 27th double-double on a basket with 13.9 seconds left.

Those boards broke Chamique Holdsclaw's record of 24, a mark that had stood since May 2003. Reese finished with 11 points, three assists and three steals. The win wrapped up a clean four-and-zero West Coast trip for Atlanta.

Two records, one game, a bigger story

The effort also carried her past A'ja Wilson's single-season rebounding mark from 2024. Reese now has 458 rebounds this year, with six games still to come. She is averaging 12.4 boards per game, the third-best single-season clip in league history.

"Last time I was here, I didn't miss any shots," she told reporters afterwards. "Tonight I couldn't hit anything so I knew I was going to be able to get them on the rebounding side." It was her fifth 20-rebound game this season, tying Tina Charles for the second-most such outings ever.

Two days before, Reese had scored a career-high 31 points in Phoenix. The quiet closing truth was simple and she said it herself: she just wants to be there for her team, whatever it takes.
