Marco Odermatt won his tenth straight World Cup giant slalom on 24 February 2024 at Palisades Tahoe. The victory made him only the third skier in history to reach double-digit consecutive wins in a single discipline. It also handed him his third straight overall World Cup title.
Twelve hundredths decide it in Tahoe
Odermatt led after the first run in clear conditions, posting 1:06.48 and holding a slim edge over Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen. The margin at the top was just 0.15 seconds.
In the second run he slipped behind at the final split before driving hard through the closeout. He crossed with a combined time of 2:11.69, just 0.12 seconds ahead of Kristoffersen. River Radamus of the United States took third for his first World Cup podium.
The result was Odermatt's seventh giant slalom win of the 2023-24 season. Those hundredths gave him another 100 points and sealed the overall crown.
Third crystal globe, and ninth on the all-time list
The Swiss racer clinched the overall title with ten races still to run, while also leading the giant slalom, super-G and downhill standings. It was his 35th career World Cup win, moving him past Alexis Pinturault into ninth place on the men's all-time list.
The run followed a period of steady dominance. He had won Olympic giant slalom gold in Beijing in 2022, taken downhill and giant slalom world titles at Courchevel-Meribel in 2023, and set the men's single-season points record of 2,042 that same year.
"It was very tight today," Odermatt said afterwards, on the narrow margin over Kristoffersen. The streak placed him beside the sport's most enduring names. For a skier still in his mid-twenties, it marked another chapter rather than a summit.
