Ronnie O'Sullivan claimed his sixth World Snooker Championship title on 16 August 2020, defeating Kyren Wilson 18–8 in a final at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
Seven frames in one decisive afternoon
The final turned across the Sunday sessions. O'Sullivan had built a 10-7 overnight lead, but Wilson reduced the gap to a single frame at 10-8 early that afternoon.
What followed was a relentless sequence. O'Sullivan won seven frames in a row in the third session, surging from 10-8 to 17-8 and dismantling any remaining resistance from his opponent.
When play resumed for the evening, he needed just one more frame. A break of 96 closed the match, the concluding session lasting only 609 seconds inside a near-silent Crucible.
Level with Davis and Reardon, one behind Hendry
The sixth title drew O'Sullivan level with Steve Davis and his former mentor Ray Reardon on the Crucible roll of honour. Only Stephen Hendry, with seven, now stood ahead of him.
It was also his 37th ranking event victory, a new outright record, and took his tally of Triple Crown titles to 20. He had arrived in Sheffield after a season without a single ranking title, having been knocked out in the first round the previous year.
The tournament had been postponed from spring and staged largely behind closed doors. O'Sullivan told the BBC afterwards, "I never really think about titles. As a kid I never dreamed I'd be here, I was playing for the fun of the game."
At 44, he saw no need to chase records with intent. The quietest Crucible had witnessed one of its most commanding victories.
