Busang Collen Kebinatshipi won the men's 400m at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on Friday night, stopping the clock at 43.40. The time set a Diamond League record, a meet record, and a Botswana national record, and earned the 22-year-old his first Diamond Trophy.
A third record under the Brussels lights
The 400m closed Day One at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme Stadium before nearly 40,000 fans. Kebinatshipi had already broken the Diamond League record twice this season, in Paris and Monaco.
He left no doubt in the final, pulling clear of Trinidad and Tobago's Jereem Richards. Richards took second in 43.68, also a national record, while Jacory Patterson and Chris Bailey followed in personal bests.
From Tokyo gold to the all-time list
The 43.40 moved Kebinatshipi to joint-fifth on the men's 400m world all-time list. It capped an undefeated 2026 season in which he also clocked 9.89 twice in one day at the Botswana national 100m championships.
A year earlier, he became Botswana's first men's individual world champion. He won the 400m at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo in a national-record 43.53, again beating Richards, and added a second gold in the 4x400m relay.
The Brussels win gave Kebinatshipi his third Diamond League record of the season and the only major 400m prize he had not yet held. He remains world number one.
