A First Landing in New Orleans

Jack Ward rode away clean, and the trick that had never been landed belonged to him. Under the roof of the Caesars Superdome, the Briton put down a backflip double front scooter flip — a backflip wrapped around two forward rotations of the deck — to win the debut Scooter Park Best Trick at MoonPay X Games New Orleans. It was a world-first, delivered at the event's first-ever running.

The setting sharpened the moment. Scooter had never held a place on the X Games program before. It arrived on 24 July 2026 as one of the new Spotlight Events, disciplines given a single stage to prove they belong. The format left no room to hide. Riders were judged on individual tricks in a winner-take-all contest, each attempt standing alone, each landing final. There were no scored runs to average out a mistake, no second competition day to recover a title. One trick, landed or not.

Ward chose the hardest line available to him. The backflip double front scooter flip asks the rider to track two separate rotations at once — the body inverting backward while the deck spins forward twice beneath the feet — then to find the deck again in the half-second before landing. He committed to it in front of a Superdome crowd and a discipline watching its own arrival. The bar for the event was set not by a margin or a time, but by a trick the sport had not seen completed. Ward set it himself, and no one cleared it.

The Weight of a Debut

The scale of the occasion was not lost on the sport's own. Freestyle rider Ryan Williams, who has pushed scootering toward this kind of stage for years, said before the event that the discipline had reached a level that deserved the X Games platform. Ward answered that argument in the most direct terms available: with a first descent into territory no rider had entered.

For Ward, the win reframes a career built in a discipline long kept outside the sport's largest venues. Competing where scooter had never been ranked or rewarded at this level, he did not settle for a safe podium trick. He reached for the one thing that would outlast the night — a name attached to a maneuver, the first to own it.

Some victories are measured against rivals. This one was measured against what had never been done. Jack Ward now stands at the front of it.
