Fox Clinches Sixth K1 Canoe Slalom World Cup Title

Jessica Fox won the women's K1 World Cup Final in La Seu d'Urgell to claim her sixth K1 overall World Cup title. It was her 13th career World Cup crown across K1 and C1.

Three runs in one day, best saved for last

The Australian faced a heavy program on finals day, racing heats, semi-finals and the final in turn. She stayed clinical through each one and kept her strongest paddling for when it mattered.

In the final she picked up an early two-second penalty on a hard course. She powered on to the finish and stopped the clock at 93.77, enough for gold.

The podium came at a personal cost. Fox's sister, Noemie Fox, sat in third until the last paddler, Monica Doria, edged her into fourth. Cami Prigent also finished on the podium.

A comeback season crowned twelve months after surgery

The win sealed her third K1 World Cup gold of the season and closed her series with 322 points. It came only twelve months after kidney surgery and the longest forced break of her career. Weeks earlier she had taken her fifth K1 world title in Oklahoma City, her 16th world championship gold and the mark of the most decorated canoe slalom athlete in history.

"To put down those runs on a hard course, I'm really proud and really happy to win, and sad to knock my sister off the podium but it's very special to share it with Cami and Monica here," she told reporters afterwards.

The final was sealed on next year's world championship course. Fox now looks ahead to defending her K1 world title on the same water.
