Isaac del Toro secured the overall title at the Lidl Deutschland Tour, finishing 53 seconds clear of Louis Barré. The victory gives the 22-year-old Mexican his fourth stage-race win of the season.
A decisive punch on the Jägerhaus
The final stage around Heilbronn was decided on the Jägerhaus climb, a 2.1‑kilometre ascent averaging 6.1 percent. Louis Barré attacked hard, but del Toro and Mathias Vacek responded immediately. Just before the summit, del Toro delivered a sharp acceleration to drop both rivals and crest the climb alone.
His gap looked solid for a moment, then shrank fast. A charging peloton reeled him in with only a hundred metres remaining, and Paul Magnier flew past to take the stage. The late solo bid failed, but the overall title was already safe.
Four titles, one breakthrough season
The win in Germany joins a collection that already includes the UAE Tour, Tirreno-Adriatico and the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes this year. Del Toro took the leader’s jersey on stage three and never gave it back. He crossed the line in Heilbronn with a final margin of 1:08 over third-placed Marc Hirschi.
His third-place finish at the Tour de France in July, on debut, established him as a breakout star. That ride included a stage win in Barcelona, making him only the second Mexican to claim a Tour stage after Raúl Alcalá. With this latest title, he turns a flash of brilliance into a sustained campaign.
“It was not the plan to attack. I was sitting at the front to stay safe, but when I saw the gap I thought: Why not?” del Toro told reporters afterwards. “It was a fantastic week here and we experienced a lot of great moments. I’m super happy.”
The instinct that sent him up the road in Heilbronn is the same instinct quietly reshaping a career. Winning has become a habit for Isaac del Toro.
