The Czech Republic secured a record-extending 12th Billie Jean King Cup title in Shenzhen on Sunday, defeating Ukraine 2-0 in the final. Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková delivered the singles wins that earned the nation its first crown since 2018.
Muchová sets an untouchable standard
Muchová gave the Czechs a commanding start against Anhelina Kalinina, winning 6-2, 6-3 in 70 minutes. She fired eight aces and dropped a total of seven points on her serve, facing zero break points throughout the match.
Noskova fights back to close the door
The deciding rubber pitted two top-10 players against each other, and Elina Svitolina struck first with brilliant all-court coverage to break for a 3-1 lead. Nosková responded immediately, unleashing punishing returns to sweep the next five games and take the opening set in 44 minutes.
A well-timed drop shot carved a 6-3 gap for Nosková, but Svitolina aced to save the first match point and the Czech missed a backhand on the second. On her third attempt, Nosková hammered a big serve and a forehand that Svitolina could barely reach, then dropped onto her back as captain Barbora Strýcová raced out to celebrate.
A golden year for Czech tennis
The top-10 duo had already made history earlier in 2026 when they met in an unprecedented all-Czech Wimbledon final, where Nosková beat Muchová for her first Grand Slam title. Now they have added a nation's 12th BJK Cup trophy to their growing list of achievements. "It's very special, a dream of mine to lift the trophy," Muchová told reporters afterwards.
Strýcová, a six-time champion as a player who was on the team that won in 2018, became just the fourth woman to lift the cup as both player and captain. The long wait since 2018 is over, and a new generation has written its own chapter.
