Erin Brooks claimed the 2026 WSL Fiji Pro at Cloudbreak, securing back-to-back Championship Tour victories without paddling out for the final. Opponent Isabella Nichols withdrew on the morning of the deciding heat with a high ankle sprain suffered in her semifinal the day before.
A perfect score and a path of champions
Brooks anchored her title run with the most dominant ride of the women's draw. In her opening round she dropped into a heaving barrel and emerged to earn a perfect 10, joining Laura Enever and Carissa Moore as the only women to record a perfect score in Fiji.
Her heat total reached an 18-point range, a statement of intent in the six-to-eight-foot swell. From there, she bulldozed through a formidable list of opponents, posting a 7.83 to eliminate 2023 world champion Caroline Marks in round two before dispatching Vahine Fierro.
The semifinal clash with five-time world champion Carissa Moore became the emotional peak of her campaign. "That heat against Carissa was so stressful, as she's been surfing so well this event," Brooks admitted afterwards.
A comeback from the brink
The final against Nichols never materialised. Nichols came up wincing after a fall during her semifinal win over Brisa Hennessy, and an MRI confirmed a high ankle sprain. "I can barely even stand on it at the moment," Nichols told the broadcast, stepping aside and handing Brooks the title.
The win completed a stunning mid-season reversal. Heading into Tahiti a month earlier, Brooks sat 18th in the rankings, staring at the possibility of falling off the tour. Two events later, with victories at Teahupo'o and now Cloudbreak, she had surged to 8th overall.
Nichols, her friend and would-be final opponent, captured the weight of the moment best. "We all know she's capable of winning both Teahupo'o and Cloudbreak, but for her to actually go out and do it while being under pressure — people don't understand how much mental power this takes."
The tour now shifted to Trestles, with a quiet possibility hanging in the air that the most dramatic late-season comeback in the sport's history had only just begun.
