On February 7, 2021, Tom Brady led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers past the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. The win gave him a seventh title and a fifth Super Bowl MVP award. He became the first player to lift the trophy with two different franchises.
Three first-half touchdowns settled it before the break
The Chiefs struck first, with a 49-yard Harrison Butker field goal. Tampa Bay answered at once, as Brady found tight end Rob Gronkowski for an 8-yard score, and the Buccaneers never trailed again.
A second Gronkowski catch made it 14-3, then Antonio Brown gathered a one-yard toss just before halftime for a 21-6 lead. Patrick Mahomes could not respond, throwing two interceptions as Kansas City failed to score a single touchdown in the 31-9 defeat.
Seven titles, more than any franchise has won
Brady finished the night 21 of 29 for 201 yards and three touchdowns. The championship came in his first season with Tampa Bay after six title runs in New England, leaving him with more Super Bowl wins than any single NFL club.
At 43 years and 188 days, he became the oldest quarterback to win the game. He was also the second passer, after Peyton Manning, to take the title with two teams, and the first to do so in each conference.
"I'm so proud of all these guys out here, everything we dealt with all year," Brady told reporters from the podium afterwards. On his teammates, he added that it was "great to see big-time players making big-time plays."
The victory gave the Buccaneers their second world championship, won in their own Raymond James Stadium. For Brady, it was one more line in a record that few had thought could grow further.
