The Trick No One Had Landed
On the second run of the Women's Skateboard Park final at Cal Expo, Arisa Trew dropped into the deep end and did what no skater had done in competition. Arisa Trew, sixteen and Australian, spun a switch McTwist — a 540-degree aerial ridden in the opposite stance — and rolled away clean. She became the first skater, male or female, to land a switch McTwist in competition. The judges returned 92.66, and the gold was hers.
The run was built for it. After securing an early lead, Trew finessed a second run featuring a McTwist on the vert wall, a backside 540 melon over the door gap, a frontside crooked to fakie, and the switch McTwist in the deep end. The foundation had been set on her opening attempt. Trew rose to the top of the leaderboard with 86.66 points on her first run, and from there continued to build her lead. The switch McTwist was not a gamble thrown at the end. It was the closing line of a run already in front.
Two Days, Two Golds
She was not finished. A day later, Trew returned for the Women's Skateboard Vert Best Trick, the event she had won a year earlier. She dropped in as the defending gold medalist from X Games Salt Lake City 2025, and in a session featuring several never-been-done tricks, the Australian claimed the victory. On her first attempt, Trew secured the win by landing her signature switch McTwist to claim her second gold medal at X Games Sacramento 2026. The trick that had made history in Park now carried her through Vert.
That second win reshaped the record books. It marked her second gold medal of the weekend and 10th career X Games gold, tying her with Lindsey Jacobellis for the most X Games gold medals by a woman in X Games history. The same win also drew her level with Gui Khury among the youngest of the sport's serial champions.
The context makes the weekend heavier. Sacramento came after a rare setback. Trew missed the podium at X Games Salt Lake City 2025, and came to Sacramento hungry. The response was a world first and a record equalled inside two days. Her trajectory has been steep from the start. With 10 gold medals in her first eight X Games appearances, including double gold in Park and Vert at X Games California 2023, Ventura 2024, Osaka 2025, and Sacramento 2026, she has already toppled Leticia Bufoni's previous record.
She is sixteen. The trick that had never been landed now carries her name.
