Wiener First Austrian to Win Archery World Cup Final

Nico Wiener claimed the compound men's title at the Saltillo 2026 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final, becoming the first Austrian ever to win an Archery World Cup Final. The 29-year-old's victory came on 13 September after a day of tight margins in Mexico.

Three matches, three one-point wins

Wiener's path through the bracket was defined by pressure. He opened with a 149-148 quarterfinal defeat of France's Nicolas Girard. In the semifinal, he edged Colombia's Pablo Gomez Zuluaga 148-147.

Fullerton downed in the decider

Facing Denmark's Mathias Fullerton for gold, Wiener again found himself in a single-arrow contest. He held his nerve to close out another 148-147 victory, his third one-point win of the day. The result secured the CHF 30,000 winner's purse.

Home favourite Rodrigo Gonzalez De Alba took bronze, beating Gomez Zuluaga 149-147. Gonzalez De Alba had already eliminated the highly rated Dutchman Mike Schloesser in a quarterfinal shoot-off, clearing one of the pre-event favourites from Wiener's path.

The World Cup Final crown joins a career that already includes individual compound gold at the 2021 World Archery Championships in Yankton. Wiener has collected medals at World Field, European, and multiple 3D Championships across a decade of international competition.

The reigning compound men's champion from the 2025 Nanjing Final, Türkiye's Emircan Haney, did not compete in Saltillo. Wiener seized the open field on a day when every arrow counted and each contest was decided at the final target.
