A reply written into history
France had barely returned to the halfway line. Thelo Aasgaard collected the ball, ran at Dayot Upamecano and beat him with a single feint, then finished past Mike Maignan at the near post. The clock read twenty-one minutes. It was Norway's first goal of the night and, though few in the Boston Stadium knew it yet, the moment that made Aasgaard the youngest Norwegian to score at a World Cup.
The equaliser arrived almost from the restart. Thelo Aasgaard got Norway on the scoreboard after Dembélé's second goal, finding the back of the net only 14 seconds after the restart. France had led early. Les Bleus were the ones to break the deadlock early. Ousmane Dembele fired the ball at the back of the net in the seventh minute. Doue added a fourth in stoppage time. The night ended 1-4, and France had won all three group games at a FIFA World Cup for the first time since first winning the trophy on home soil in 1998 — thanks to a hat-trick by Ousmane Dembele.
For Aasgaard, the defeat did little to dim the marker set down. The Rangers midfielder had arrived at the tournament as a supporting figure behind Norway's more familiar names. He also became the youngest ever goal scorer for Norway at the FIFA World Cup. The game has already become quite interesting with Dembele completing his hat-trick in the 32nd minute. In a match owned by others, he took the one moment that belonged to him.
