Sedláček First Czech to Win PDC Players Championship

Karel Sedláček ended more than a decade of waiting with one clean shot. At 47, the Czech player beat England’s Scott Williams 8–7 in the final of PDC Players Championship 30 to become the first player from his nation ever to win a PDC ranking title.

A final decided by a single leg

The decisive moment arrived deep into a tense Wednesday evening at the Maaspoort in Den Bosch. After a back-and-forth contest, the final stood locked at 7–7, every break weighing twice as much. Sedláček had earlier missed match darts that let Williams force the deciding leg — but on his final chance the Czech hit a clean checkout and raised his hand as the title landed.

Williams had entered the match as the favourite, carrying stronger momentum from knockout rounds earlier in the season. Yet Sedláček’s run through the day had been ruthlessly efficient: he dispatched Tavis Dudeney 6–1, Daniel Klose 6–0 and Damon Heta 6–1 to reach the semi-finals without ever looking unsettled.

Ten years distilled into one checkout

Sedláček has held a PDC Tour Card, fallen off the professional circuit and fought his way back. That changed on 23 September 2026 — the date Czech darts finally placed a name in the record column that mattered.

“I think I’ve been waiting for this maybe more than ten years,” Sedláček told reporters, “and now it’s a reality. That’s crazy.”

For Central Europe, the win also carried wider meaning. Only a handful of players from the region compete on the PDC circuit with consistency, and Sedláček had just done what none before him had managed. He was no longer simply a player capable of high scores; he was a ranking champion.

A £15,000 winner’s cheque accompanied the history, but the worth of Wednesday’s last leg sat deeper. Sedláček has played darts for over three decades, and on a night when he had to survive his own missed chances, he found the throw that turned patience into proof.
