Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won the classic sprint in Trondheim on Friday to become the first male cross‑country skier to reach 100 World Cup victories. The milestone arrived on his home track at Granåsen, where he had learned to ski as a child.
A hundredth win, on home snow
The final unfolded under clear skies. Teenager Alvar Myhlback set a fierce double‑poling pace early, but five Norwegians soon swallowed the young Swede.
Oskar Opstad Vike led into the descents, yet Klæbo sat in his slipstream and timed his move with care. He slingshotted around the inside on the long downhill, cleared the difficult final corner cleanly, and crossed 0.31 seconds ahead of Vike. Myhlback stormed from fifth to third, missing second by three hundredths for his first World Cup podium in only ten starts.
Clear of the legends, chasing one more
The century win lifted Klæbo beyond Norwegian icons Bjørn Dæhlie and Petter Northug Jr. His first victory came in Otepää, Estonia in February 2017, and the hundredth arrived eight years later on the same tracks where he swept all six events at the 2025 World Championships.
"It's perfect, there couldn't be a better place to take it and also to do it in sprint, it's special," he told reporters afterwards. The only target left ahead is Marit Bjørgen's all‑time record of 114 World Cup wins.
Favourites Edvin Anger, Even Northug and Federico Pellegrino all fell before the final. Klæbo waited, gathered the moment, and made history where he first put on skis.
