Nyjah Huston captured his 15th X Games gold medal in the men’s street final at X Games Ventura 2024, tying the all-time record held by Shaun White and Garrett Reynolds.
A 95.00 that split the field
The final ran under California sun on the event’s closing day. Huston landed his runs with a precision that left the rest of the field trailing well behind. His winning score of 95.00 opened a gap of more than four points over Braden Hoban, who took silver with 90.66.
Portugal’s Gustavo Ribeiro claimed bronze on 87.00, becoming the first athlete from his nation to step onto an X Games podium. Kelvin Hoefler and Dashawn Jordan completed the top five, but nobody could close the distance Huston had built.
From best trick to outright record
The street crown completed a weekend double. One day earlier Huston had matched Bob Burnquist’s skateboarding gold record by winning Street Best Trick with a nollie heelflip backside tailslide to fakie. The street final pushed him clear of Burnquist and into the company of White and Reynolds across all sports.
It was his 23rd overall X Games medal at his 24th appearance. The podium also delivered firsts for others: Jhancarlos Gonzalez had earned Colombia’s first X Games medal in the best trick event the previous day.
“I started at 11 years old, and we are not done,” Huston told reporters afterwards. “I still have a lot of good years left of skating.”
The moment placed him alongside two names that defined action sports for a generation, at the event he called "the OG skate event."
