Gerardi Wins Fourth Trofeo Kima, Sets Course Record

Hillary Gerardi won the Trofeo Kima for a record fourth time on Saturday, crossing the line in Val Masino in 7:25:54. She broke her own women's course record by nearly five minutes on the exposed Sentiero Roma.

A fourth title on the Sentiero Roma

The American skyrunner raced the classic 52-kilometre loop with 4,200 metres of climbing. The route crosses seven alpine passes, all above 2,500 metres. French debutante Lucille Germain finished second in 7:32:04 after climbing back from seventh place.

Gerardi learned at the Barbacan pass that Germain sat only three minutes behind. She turned a controlled race into a full-effort chase on the final descent. No one could match her pace.

Four wins in eight years

With this victory Gerardi joins Corinne Favre and Morena Paieri as the only women to win Trofeo Kima four times. Her earlier record of 7:30:38 had stood since a prior edition. She lowered it to 7:25:54 on a day when 936 runners from forty nations took part across the event's four races.

Italy's Roberta Jacquin completed the women's podium in 7:54:42. In the men's race, William Boffelli claimed his first Kima title in 6:07:43, the second-fastest time ever on the course.

The Trofeo Kima has run since 1995 on the Sentiero Roma in memory of mountain rescuer Pierangelo Marchetti. For Gerardi, racing for Scarpa and Black Diamond, the day added another layer to a quiet dominance that now spans eight years.
