Martin Fuksa of Czechia and Hungary's Daniel Fejes shared the men's C-1 1000 m world title in a dead heat at the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Poznan. Both men stopped the clock at 4:07.44, a result so tight the timing system could not separate them.
Two hundredths decide a final
Fuksa produced a powerful finish to draw level with Fejes on the line. Behind them, Russia's Zakhar Petrov took bronze in 4:07.46. The margin decided nothing between the two leaders and everything behind them.
Five titles, three in a row
The shared gold is Fuksa's third consecutive C-1 1000 m world crown. It brings his career total to five world titles and 17 World Championship medals. He arrived in Poznan as the Paris 2024 Olympic champion over the same distance.
The field he faced underlined the scale of the achievement. Petrov, the bronze medallist, is himself a five-time world champion at 24. The result adds another layer to a career already defined by consistency at the very top of canoe sprint.
Fuksa comes from a canoeing family. His father Petr is a former Czech canoeist, and Martin previously raced alongside his brother Petr Jr. in the C-2 1000 m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The Poznan dead heat now stands as one of the rarest entries in a record book already filled with his name.
A tie for world championship gold remains almost unheard of in the sport. The clock decided nothing, and history now records two names where one might have been expected.
