A first gold, and a champion toppled
On 14 June 2026, at the Gloria Sports Arena in Antalya, Dhiraj Bommadevara reached the top step of a World Cup podium for the first time in the individual recurve.
Dhiraj Bommadevara stunned the Republic of Korea's Lee Woo-seok, an Olympic bronze medallist, 7-3 in the men's individual final to claim the top spot.
The margin looked comfortable on paper. The occasion was anything but.
The final was the calmer chapter of a turbulent day.
In the semi-finals, the Indian archer recovered from a 3-1 deficit to beat Germany's Moritz Wieser 6-4 in a thriller.
Behind and under pressure, he steadied his rhythm and turned the match. That recovery, more than the scoreline against Lee, defined the temperament he carried into the gold match.
Hours earlier he had already claimed one title.
India's Dhiraj Bommadevara and teenager Kumkum Mohod produced a display to upset reigning Olympic champions South Korea in straight sets and win the recurve mixed team gold at the Archery World Cup Stage 3. Dhiraj, 24, and 17-year-old Kumkum defeated Oh Ye-jin and Kim Je-deok 5-1 (37-36, 37-36, 39-39).
The pair gave little away.
The Indian duo held their nerve throughout the final, with Dhiraj shooting perfect 10s with his final two arrows to seal the contest.
The weight of the win
The result carried meaning beyond the two medals.
The Indian pair delivered a near-clinical performance against the nation that has won both Olympic mixed team gold medals since the event joined the programme at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Korea did not fold quietly.
Even after Bommadevara moved India 4-0 ahead, Korea responded with a 39-point third set, but India matched it to close out the match 5-1.
For Bommadevara, the individual title marked a shift in trajectory.
It was Dhiraj's first-ever individual gold medal at the Archery World Cup and fourth overall. The earlier three were bronze.
The step from bronze to gold had been a long one.
It was also India's first men's individual recurve gold at a World Cup stage since Atanu Das achieved the feat in 2021.

The Dhaka 2025 Asian champion is in his fifth consecutive season on archery's premier international circuit, with Paris his only Olympic Games so far at 24.

Mohod, at 17, is in her first season, having already helped guide India to recurve women's team gold in Shanghai, where she shot the winning X in a shoot-off against host China.
