Cassandre Beaugrand claimed her second World Triathlon Championship title in Pontevedra on 26 September 2026, winning the WTCS Grand Final by more than a minute to complete a flawless five-from-five season.
A run that ended the contest in seconds
The decisive move came the moment the shoes went on. Beaugrand emerged from the second transition alongside principal rival Beth Potter, but she attacked from the very first stride of the 10km run. Only Georgia Taylor-Brown could follow, and even she was quickly dropped on the opening circuit.
The margin told a ruthless story: 21 seconds after one lap, 43 seconds after two, and 56 seconds at the final split. Beaugrand crossed the line in 1:50:52, never once looking under threat. Taylor-Brown finished second, 1:05 back, while Kate Waugh took third at +1:31.
Five races, no defeats
The win capped a campaign without blemish. Beaugrand arrived in Spain carrying the maximum 4,000 points from four races, and the Grand Final delivered a fifth.
Its nine-lap layout punished the field with a repeated climb that forced riders to accelerate and recover again and again. By the end of the 40km, only eight riders remained clear, and Beaugrand did the rest on foot.
From Wollongong heartbreak to a perfect season
Twelve months earlier, Beaugrand had arrived at the Grand Final in Wollongong as title favourite and did not finish, watching Lisa Tertsch take the crown. This time she left nothing to chance, becoming only the fourth woman in the Series era to win a second world title.
"I am a bit emotional right now. Everyone sees the easy part. It is hard to win, but it is even harder to stay at the top," she told reporters afterwards. "Today was my best race ever."
